We were founded on October 8, 1998 at University of California-Davis (UC Davis) by Founding Mothers Alycia Seaman, Erin Glick, Leah Dansker, Rachel Rothfarb, Erin Barker, and Dana Miller. We know our name can be a bit of a mouthful, so we often go by the nicknames SAEPi, orSigmaAEPi.
Our motto is Spirit, Strength, Sisterhood, and these three words are at the center of what Sigma Alpha Epsilon Pi stands for. They represent the values on which we stand and that toward which our sisters strive.
Our core values are Unity, Trust, Strength, Sincere Sisterhood, and Exemplifying Jewish Values. These values define our sorority as a community. Members, individually and collectively, aim to live these values both in and out of the context of the organization. Each value is equally significant, and should never be sacrificed for another.
Our mascot is the Lioness because she represents strength, power, and force — exactly the qualities that drive our sisterhood from within. A sister, like the lioness, should be both strong-minded and caring toward those around her. Our flower is the Blue Iris. They are delicate and unique, but they also command your attention. And their color is remarkably similar to ours — blue and gold. Our colors, then, are blue and gold. Blue is prominent in Judaism, and gold symbolizes the richness SAEPi brings to its members. They are also the colors of University of California, where SAEPi was founded. Our jewel is the sapphire, whose blue color is linked to such energies as sympathy, harmony, friendship, and loyalty — exactly what our sisters provide and receive in return. Last is our crest, which incorporates our mascot, flower, and four Greek letter designations. The four-toed paw points to our values of unity, trust, strength, and sincere sisterhood, and the pad of the paw to which they are all attached represents our unifying commitment to exemplifying Jewish values. The toes are an extension of the pad, just like all of our core values are an extension of exemplifying Jewish values as a whole.
